Give and Serve

Glen Oak Christian Church loves its ministries!

To keep our ministries running, we need God’s guidance, financial gifts and YOU! Giving is not just financial; we appreciate your time and talents. If you would like to give a financial gift or give of your time and talents, follow the links below.

Gifts to Glen Oak Christian Church

You can give to support any and all of the business, ministries, and missions of the church by designating your gift to the general fund.

Operation Inasmuch is a one-day blitz of home projects in our East Bluff neighborhood. We utilize our volunteers and skills to complete home repairs, yard clean-ups and trash disposal to help our neighbors. “Surely I say to you, In as much as you do this for the least of these my brothers and sisters, you did it unto me.” Matthew 25:40.

Snack pack is a hands-on ministry sharing 4-6 individually packaged non-perishable foods such as cheese and crackers, Ramon Noodles, oatmeal and fruit cups to over 2000 students each week from preschool through post high school. Snack packs provides a hands-on outreach experience for 35-40 senior adults and special need individuals. It also provides an employment opportunity for 8-10 individuals who lack employment skills and financial ability. Volunteers are always welcome as we pack and distribute Snack Packs on Thursday mornings from 9-10:30 throughout the school year.

Snack Packs is more than food!

The Love Fund is a fund that people donate to throughout the year to be able to have money that can be distributed to those in need of help. When the church gets calls or people come in looking for a bus pass, help with rent, gas bills, electric bills, or other needs that make it easier to live their lives, this fund is meant to show the love Glen Oak has for our neighbors. We can’t always do everything we want to, but we try and do what we can, and the Love Fund helps us make at least a small difference in some people’s lives when they really need it. If you’d like to donate to the Love Fund to help us make that difference, even a little bit can sometimes go a long way, donate via button below.

Special Offerings

Week of Compassion is a general ministry of our denomination the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). It is a ministry of the whole Church which serves vulnerable communities here in the United States and throughout the entire world. Anytime and anywhere there is a need, Week of Compassion is there to respond, to bear witness to the unity of the Lord’s Table, to faithfully share the gifts that this church and many others throughout the denomination have given as an expression of Christ’s love.

Working with local partners wherever they go, they represent our denomination’s commitment to unity, allowing their resources and responses to reach farther, growing their impact on a global scale.

The Week of Compassion Mission: As the relief, refugee, and development mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Week of Compassion works with partners to alleviate suffering throughout the world.

Vision: A world where God's people transform suffering into hope.

Core Values: We value connection, partnering with individuals, congregations, and organizations to serve the needs of the world.

We rely on integrity, and commit to faithful stewardship, ensuring gifts entrusted to Week of Compassion are making the greatest impact.

We focus on accompaniment, embodying God's grace by committing to a long-term presence with communities in need.

When you give to Week of Compassion, 100% of your donation goes to the organizations efforts to help serve people in their needs. None of your donation goes to overhead, it all goes to the cause. If you give to a particular disaster, such as a community suffering from a tornado, earthquake, etc., 100% of your marked donation will go to that community and the relief effort there.

Disciples Mission Fund (DMF) (https://disciplesmissionfund.org/what-is-dmf/) is a ministry of the Disciples of Christ general church that helps to simplify supporting the various missions of the greater church.

Throughout the year, the DMF sponsors special offerings that allow all the churches of the denomination to give to support various general ministries and projects.

As a church, Glen Oak participates each year in these special offerings:

The Easter Offering supports the vast number of General Ministries of the Disciples of Christ Denomination – ministries such as the Christian Board of Publication/Chalice Press (https://chalicepress.com/), the Christian Church Foundation (https://christianchurchfoundation.org), the Council on Christian Unity (https://www.disciplescuim.org/), Disciples of Christ Historical Society (https://discipleshistory.org/), Disciples Overseas Ministries/Global Ministries (https://www.globalministries.org), the National Benevolent Association (https://www.nbacares.org/) and many more. These ministries operate across the U.S. and Canada as well as around the world.

The Pentecost special offering helps to support the development and growth of transforming churches and starting new churches. Half of everything given through the churches stays in the region the church giving is located in, for us the Illinois and Wisconsin Region, and the other half supports the general churches New Church Ministry (https://newchurchministry.org/).

The Thanksgiving Offering goes to support the fifteen colleges and universities and the seven theological institutions that are affiliated with the Disciples of Christ, including our next-door neighbor Eureka College. This offering helps to provide scholarships and pastoral care to Disciples students at these Disciples schools.

The Christmas Offering, which we take in July, directly supports the region, for us the Illinois Wisconsin Region (https://cciwdisciples.org), helping to support pastoral care, regional enrichment programs, Camp Walter Scott, the development and ordination of ministry candidates, and much more.

Partnering with and giving to DMF helps to make us part of a larger group making a difference in our community, our state, our country, and the world through our denomination.

DMF takes seriously the Disciples of Christ motto “A Movement for Wholeness in a Fragmented World,” and through sharing that work with DMF and all other Disciples churches that give to DMF and these special offerings as well, we can work to accomplish God’s work for us that we could never hope to achieve on our own.

Legacy Giving

Legacy Giving

During their lives, many people have supported organizations and causes that are important to them with their time and resources.  Someday, we will all run out of time.  So how can we continue to support those institutions and causes that are important to us after we are gone?  Legacy giving is one way to do that.  However, in order for that to happen it must be specified in your Will or Trust – and there is no better time to do that than now!!  Another way is to set up a “Transfer on Death” account which goes directly to the named institution upon death of the account holder.

At Glen Oak Christian Church, undesignated monetary gifts will be added to our “Permanent Fund” which functions as an endowment.  These funds are currently invested with the Christian Church Foundation.  It is hoped that over time this fund can grow in such a way that investment income made possible by your generosity can fund a significant portion of the Church's mission.  Monetary gifts for a specific purpose and gifts of property or other goods must be reviewed and accepted by the Board of Trustees and may or may not be accepted.

Thank you for your consideration of the church in your estate planning. Contact the church office for more information.
